Concept

This illustration was created for the United Way Bay Area 211 Art Contest, which invited artists to represent the impact of 211 services within their communities. The concept centers on connection, portraying the community as a bridge that supports individuals in times of need. The goal was to communicate a sense of belonging, diversity, and shared humanity while reflecting the vibrancy of the Bay Area.

Solution

The design features a diverse group of characters representing an inclusive community, highlighting different identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Their interconnected gestures form a visual metaphor of support and unity, reinforcing the idea of 211 as a bridge to essential resources. A vibrant color palette and approachable illustration style create a warm and inviting tone. Central elements such as the sunflower symbolize hope and resilience, while the background references the Golden Gate Bridge to emphasize connection and optimism. The composition was designed to engage a broad audience, conveying encouragement and accessibility through visual storytelling.
